Disaster Plan

The whole concept of a Family Disaster Plan started a few years ago when Mrs HM and I finally got off our butts and got living wills drawn up.  It is remarkably important to make sure your family is aware of your wishes before something goes wrong.

It overflowed into these pages when I encountered a unique person on the job.

No tubes, no drugs, no violent CPR to prolong what was clearly a painful and excruciating life. He made sure, months ago, to make out a living will which explained his wishes should his heart stop beating, which led to the DNR.

Not to mention freeing up the other resources to those who may need them.

When you finish reading this look into a living will.

Get a Living Will: Step 1.

That was the beginning.  Follow the links below to get more detailed instructions on how to assemble a custom Family Disaster Plan.  Follow them from top to bottom, each step can be finished in an afternoon if not faster.

Make your wishes known: Later the next week I challenged my readers with a You Make the Call that made them face a situation no one wants to deal with:  Their own untimely death.  Read it here.  The living will is the first step in creating a unique Family Disaster Plan.

Start the Plan: The Monday after the awkward conversation, we take the steps to outfit our Disaster Plan with a cover sheet and basic information.  Find out how in this post.

Purchase disaster supplies: Now with the Plan on the shelf, get out and get shopping.  Your shopping list awaits in this post – Supplies, just make sure to buy the food first, then bins to fit it.

Building the Plan, adding LODD Letter: Writing a message to your loved ones for after you are gone is tough to do, but has to be done before we move along.  Find out how HERE.

[...] This month, the Backstep Firefighter  is entertaining the subject “Influential Fire Reports.” I was going to let it pass, but then I realized this incident affects me every day. Go on over there to see what others have found influential, and then drop by Happy Medic’s place for some advice on preparing for the unthinkable. [...]
